Connect Letter IRL

Add Letter IRL to the AI app you already use, then ask it for a letter or a postcard. We print it and mail it.

You always send it yourself. The app makes a preview first. Then you press Send on the preview card, or open the link the app gives you and send it on letterirl.com. Letter IRL never mails anything you haven't seen.
ChatGPT

On the web, the desktop app and the phone apps

  1. In ChatGPT, open Apps, search for Letter IRL, and connect it.

  2. Sign in to Letter IRL when ChatGPT asks, or create your account.

  3. Ask for a letter or a postcard. You'll see a preview card with a Send button.

Claude

On claude.ai, Claude Desktop and the Claude phone apps

Add to Claude
  1. Click Add to Claude. Or, in Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector, and paste this address:

    https://api.letterirl.com/mcp
  2. Sign in to Letter IRL when Claude asks.

  3. In a chat, ask for a letter or a postcard. You'll see a preview card with a Send button.

  • Once added, Letter IRL is in Claude wherever you're signed in: the web, Desktop and the phone apps.
  • Claude's free plan allows one custom connector.
  • Claude doesn't take purchases through connectors, so you buy letters here on letterirl.com.
Claude Code

In your terminal

  1. Add the server:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user letter-irl https://api.letterirl.com/mcp
  2. Start Claude Code, run /mcp, choose letter-irl, then Authenticate, and sign in to Letter IRL.

  3. Ask for a letter. Claude Code gives you a link, and you check the letter and send it on letterirl.com.

  • If you've added Letter IRL to Claude and Claude Code is signed in with that Claude account, it already has Letter IRL.
Codex

In the Codex CLI

  1. Add the server:

codex mcp add letter-irl --url https://api.letterirl.com/mcp
  2. In ~/.codex/config.toml, add this line to the letter-irl entry. Without it, Codex asks for the wrong permissions and Letter IRL can't answer:

    scopes = ["mail:read", "mail:draft", "mail:send", "offline_access"]
  3. Sign in:

    codex mcp login letter-irl
  4. Ask for a letter. Codex gives you a link, and you check the letter and send it on letterirl.com.

Hermes Agent

On your computer

  1. Add the server:

    hermes config set mcp_servers.letter_irl.url https://api.letterirl.com/mcp
  2. Turn on sign-in:

    hermes config set mcp_servers.letter_irl.auth oauth
  3. Sign in, in a browser on the same computer:

    hermes mcp login letter_irl
  4. Ask for a letter. Hermes gives you a link, and you check the letter and send it on letterirl.com.

  • Hermes waits for the sign-in on the computer it runs on, so sign in with a browser on that computer.
Other apps

Any app that connects to a remote MCP server

Add Letter IRL by its server address:

https://api.letterirl.com/mcp

If the app signs you in, sign in to Letter IRL when it asks. If it only takes a header, create a personal access token and send it as Authorization: Bearer followed by the token. A token reads your account and makes previews; you send on letterirl.com.

Connect your agent

For a coding agent that can run commands: copy this prompt and give it to your agent.

Connect Letter IRL, so you can help me write real letters and postcards that are printed and mailed.

1. Add the remote MCP server https://api.letterirl.com/mcp with your own command for adding an HTTP MCP server that signs in with OAuth. Don't install any package.
2. Then stop and let me sign in to Letter IRL in the browser.
3. When I ask for a letter or a postcard, make a preview first and show it to me. Never send it yourself: I send it from the preview card, or you give me the link from request_send and I send it on letterirl.com.

Sign in with the same email in every app and it's the same Letter IRL account, with the same letters and balance.
