What is Letter IRL?

Letter IRL is a service that lets you send physical letters through the mail using AI assistants like ChatGPT. You compose your letter in conversation, we print it, and mail it via USPS.

By using Letter IRL, you agree to these terms.

Using the Service

Account

  • You sign in through Auth0 using Google, Microsoft, GitHub, Apple, or email/password
  • Your account is personal to you - don't share your login credentials
  • You're responsible for all activity under your account

Letter Packs

  • Sending letters requires pre-payment via Letter Packs, which you purchase through our service
  • The letter cost is shown before you confirm each letter
  • Letters are non-refundable once sent
  • Pre-paid letters expire according to the policy shown at time of purchase or grant
  • We use Stripe to process payments securely

Sending Letters

  • Letters are currently limited to US addresses only
  • Once a letter is submitted for mailing, it cannot be recalled or cancelled
  • We validate addresses but cannot guarantee delivery to incorrect addresses

Your Responsibilities

Accurate Information

  • Provide accurate sender and recipient addresses
  • Letters returned due to bad addresses are not automatically refunded
  • You are responsible for verifying the preview before confirming

Appropriate Content

You agree NOT to use Letter IRL to send:

  • Threats, harassment, or intimidating content
  • Spam or unsolicited bulk mail ("junk mail", "chain letters")
  • Fraudulent or deceptive content
  • Content that impersonates another person
  • Content that violates any law (including US Postal Service regulations)
  • Obscene or illegal material
  • Sensitive personal information (SSNs, financial account numbers, health data)

We reserve the right to refuse service, block letters, and terminate accounts that violate these rules.

No Expectation of Privacy for Letter Content

To provide the Service, your letter content must be processed by our servers and transmitted to third-party printing facilities. Employees or contractors of Letter IRL and our partners (PostGrid) may view your content for technical support, quality assurance, or fraud prevention.

Do not use this Service for confidential communications.

How the Service Works

Letter Processing

  1. You compose your letter through ChatGPT or another supported AI assistant
  2. We show you a preview and the cost before you confirm
  3. Once confirmed, a letter is deducted from your balance and the letter is queued
  4. Our printing partner (PostGrid) prints and mails your letter via USPS
  5. You can track the status through the service

Delivery

  • Standard delivery typically takes 3-7 business days within the US
  • We cannot guarantee specific delivery dates
  • Delivery tracking is provided when available
  • We hand off mail to USPS - we cannot guarantee final delivery

Refunds and Disputes

When We Issue Refunds

  • If our system fails to process your letter (letters returned to your balance automatically)
  • If there's a technical error on our end that prevents delivery

When We Don't Issue Refunds

  • For letters successfully submitted to our mailing partner
  • For incorrect addresses you provided
  • For content issues that could have been caught in preview
  • For expired unused letter balance
  • All Letter Pack purchases are final except where required by law

Chargebacks

If you dispute a charge with your credit card company instead of contacting us first, we may suspend your account pending resolution.

Service Limitations

What We Don't Guarantee

  • Specific delivery dates or times
  • That mail won't be lost by postal service
  • Uninterrupted access to the service
  • That the service will meet all your specific needs

Service Changes

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. We'll try to give reasonable notice for significant changes. Letter pricing may change at any time.

Your Data

Your use of Letter IRL is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

Intellectual Property

  • Letter IRL and its features are our property
  • The content of your letters remains yours
  • Letter balance cannot be exchanged for cash

Termination

You Can Leave Anytime

  • You can stop using the service at any time
  • Unused letter balance is not refunded upon account closure

We May Terminate Access

We may terminate or suspend your access immediately, without prior notice, if you:

  • Violate these terms
  • Use the service for illegal purposes
  • Abuse the service or our staff
  • Attempt to circumvent our systems

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Letter IRL shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us for the specific letter or Letter Pack at issue
  • We are not responsible for actions of postal services or third parties

Disputes

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, USA.

Resolution

We prefer to resolve issues informally first. Contact us before pursuing formal action.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms at any time. Your continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the new terms.
